Megan Carlton - Religion

So heres some things to think about and maybe write about....

1. What was the benefit of the arguing today? Did you gain anything from it (besides anger and frustration)?

2. What are the benefits of listening to others opinions and learning about their beliefs and where they are coming from?

3. Why, especially when it comes to religion, does it automatically turn into everyone feeling like they have to defend what they believe?

4. What are some things we can do better to show respect to what other people are saying and believe no matter what the topic is?

Tomorrow the main focus of our discussion will be about Religion, but i also plan to tie in a few other things. Everyone believes different things, even people from the same religion or denomination don't practice their religion the same exact way. Other people don't believe in a God or higher power at all, and thats okay too. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and beliefs. Sometimes it seems as though religion is tearing people apart rather than bringing them together, and that is what im going to talk about. I hope you guys all enjoy it and get something out of it. I know that religion is a big issue that a lot of people have feelings about and feel passionately about. I hope that we will all be able to respect each others opinions and beliefs and that no one feels like they have to defend themselves.

The following video and lyrics you don't have to look at. We will be looking at those in class.

Come on yall
Ooo sha sha
Sometimes I'm right
and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
makes no difference what group I'm in

Chorus:
I am everyday people.
There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
for living with the big one trying to be a skinny one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee
ooo sha sha
We got to live together

Verse 1:
I'm no better and neither are you
We are the same whatever we do
You love me you hate me
you know me and then
you can't figure out the bag I'm in.
I am everyday people.

Chorus:
There is a long hair that doesn't like the short hair
for being such a rich one that will not help the poor one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee
ooo sha sha
We got to live together.

There is a yellow one that won't accept the black one
that won't accept the red one that won't accept the white one
different strokes for different folks
so on and so on and scooby dooby dooby
ooo sha sha
Well I am everyday people
Hear me when I tell you now
I am everyday people
yep oh yes I am yes I am yes I am
I am everyday people yea yea
Ooo sha sha
We got to live together.

I said we got to live together.

Well I am everyday people
